The McMichael Canadian Art Collection ranks among Canada's top public galleries in size and significance. The four floors of Gallery, exhibition, and programming space, comprising 25,000 sq.ft., are surronded by a network of outdoor trails, outdoor sculpture garden and 100 acres of conservation land with breathtaking views of the Humber Valley. Over 6,000 distinctively Canadian works of art comprise the permanent collection, and the gallery welcomes on average more than 110,000 visitors annually.
The Tour & Interpretation Coordinator is a one-year, full-time position from September 2015 to September 2016. The position is responsible for coordinating and contributing to the development of teaching and training resources for Education tour staff and docent volunteers. The Tour & Interpretation Coordinator supervises daily department operations and is the liaison for the docent volunteers. In addition, the Tour & Interpretation Coordinator proactively develops contacts and fosters relationships with community groups, school boards, special needs agencies and other related institutions to engage their participation within the McMichael's Creative Learning programs.
The sucessful candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Arts, Education, Fine Arts or Museum Studies, and 3-plus years' experience with public or education programs, preferably in a museum environment. Experience working with volunteers, excellent customer service, communication and problem-solving skills is required. Knowledge of the visual arts and teaching pedagogy, as well as ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and work within a team environment are required. The position involves daily contact with the public in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment.
