Program Manager: Internships and Mentorships

The Independent Media Arts Alliance (IMAA) is seeking a dynamic Program Manager to join its team.

The Independent Media Arts Alliance is a member-driven non-profit national organization working to advance and strengthen the media arts community in Canada. We provide professional development resources for the independent media arts sector, foster communication across the network we serve, and engage in advocacy initiatives to defend and advance the needs and concerns of the independent media arts community. Our organization is strong and dynamic, anchored in its diverse membership from all regions of the country, and supported by a small but dedicated staff. We are innovative, forward-thinking and inclusive in our commitment to serve independent media arts communities in all their diversity from coast to coast to coast.

Beginning in fall 2020, IMAA will add a new project to its activities: the delivery of youth employment internships focused on digital skills and training, supported by the Government of Canada through its Digital Skills for Youth Program. To ensure the success of this new activity, we are currently recruiting for the newly created position of Program Manager: Youth Training and Internships.

 

About the position:

Reporting to the National Director with guidance from a Governance Committee, the Program Manager: Internships and Mentorships will ensure the successful delivery of a youth employment program involving an estimated 35 participants across the country. This individual will ensure the successful delivery of youth internship employment grants as part of the federal Digital Skills for Youth (DS4Y) program. They will be responsible for liaising with IMAA’s network, managing the program, recruiting and onboarding employers, administering contracts and providing timely and accurate reporting to funders. They will also play a role in coordinating or delivering customized learning modules for interns.  

 

Specifically, the Program Manager will: 

  • Design and implement a national, bilingual communications strategy to promote these internship opportunities

  • Answer questions from potential employers about the program and application process

  • Manage the application process for two program intakes (2020 and 2021), ensuring a transparent and equitable selection process

  • Manage relationships with employer partners, funding bodies, and other stakeholders throughout the course of the program

  • Work collaboratively with participating employers to develop a training curriculum and oversee its delivery

  • Develop an evaluation framework for the project, collecting data on impact and benefits

  • Meet reporting responsibilities to a federal funding agency and other funders

  • Provide sound management of the project, ensuring that all aspects delivered on time and within budget

  •  

 

Deliverables:

  • Successful completion of two complete cycles of internships (2020-21 and 2021-22), including recruitment, intake, signing of contracts and monitoring of project results and impact.

  • Development of specialized training curriculum, in cooperation with employer partners

  • Completion of all required reporting to funding agency(ies)

 

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or college equivalent in communications, arts administration or liberal arts

  • At least three years’ experience managing complex projects with multiple partners and stakeholders, especially related to internships, mentorships, job training or skills development

  • Well-organized and meticulous in creating and managing efficient workflows and systems

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills supported by diplomacy, tact and equanimity

  • A first-hand understanding of the needs and realities of not-for-profit and small for-profit employers in the arts and culture sectors 

  • Experience drafting and interpreting contracts in for-profit and not-for-profit contexts

  • Some background in e-learning, online training platforms, and train-the-trainers approaches

  • Proficiency with standard office and project management tools (spreadsheets, critical paths / gantt charts, cloud-based collaborative tools, video teleconferencing)

  • Bilingualism is essential (written and oral English and French) 

 

Terms:

  • Term of the contract: August 2020 until April 2022.

  • 35 hours per week from August 2020 until March 2021, 28 hours per week thereafter.

  • Rate of pay: $24 - $27 per hour, depending on  level of experience. 

  • The Program Manager will be hired as a contract employee, reporting to IMAA’s National Director with guidance from a project Governance Committee.

  • IMAA’s National Office is located in Montréal, but we will consider applicants based elsewhere in Canada. We are currently observing work from home protocols. The successful candidate may be required to travel as part of their functions.
